Plymouth Congregational Church
Nestled in one of the most beautiful spots in the country, Coconut Grove, Miami, Plymouth Congregational Church is a gift to the body, soul and spirit. Twelve acres of gardens, a beautiful sanctuary, a friendly, engaged congregation and a committed staff provide beauty, rest and peace to many. Plymouth Congregational is also one of Miami's oldest congregations, founded in 1887.
The challenge was to design a site for Plymouth Congregational that visually captures the vibrancy of the church community, south Florida setting and the church's mission to serve the surrounding community in Christ's name. As with every project, we began by immersing ourselves in the life of the church: strolling in the gardens, attending worship services, exploring the archives and talking with members (and yes, enjoying the beach). Out of our research came the final feature list: prominent photography, an historical timeline, extensive visual campus tour, integrated master calendar, music and sermon audio files and member stories.
Under the hood
Drupal was chosen as the content management system for its customization capabilities, ease of use and ability to designate multiple levels of users and permissions. We focused our efforts on building a sophisticated, custom master calendar equally useful to members, visitors and church administers for its facilities management capabilities.
Why we love this site
The staff asked us to design a site that would help those who physically could not be at church feel as if they were. They had their seeker, sick, elderly and sojourning members in mind but whenever we want to feel like a part of the Plymouth Congregational community again, we visit this site and remember the gift of their beautiful hospitality to us.
"Beautiful" and "easy to use" are the consistent reviews...a perfect balance of form and function.
